Classical, Jazz, Rock...

All Styles.

All Levels. All Ages.

Many of my talented students have…

  • Auditioned for local youth orchestras, including PYSO, TRYPO, and PYPO.

  • Performed in youth orchestras for years and/or moved to a more elite-level group within the orchestra.

  • Been selected for PMEA Honors Orchestra events, with some advancing to the prestigious state level.

  • Successfully auditioned for inspiring summer camps, including French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts, CMU Summer Pre-College Music, University of Michigan Bass Bash, Utah Symposium for Double Bass, and the Milt Hinton Institute for Studio Bass at Oberlin Conservatory.

  • Matriculated into competitive music schools.

Justin is an outstanding bass teacher. Our son has worked with him for seven years through high school, and he now majors in bass performance.  Justin is very hands-on, challenges you and makes sure that you understand what he’s explaining.  He also helped our son prepare for college auditions, and always goes above and beyond his calling. Justin is a one-in-a-million teacher with great character.

Mr. Bendel’s enthusiasm, encouragement, and decades of professional experience have helped my son develop good habits and increase his confidence and competence.  He patiently answers every question and is well prepared every week.  He tailors each lesson to address what my son is working on in school and orchestra.  I’ve found Mr. Bendel to be dedicated to bringing out the best in his students while making learning fun at the same time.  My son began playing double bass in third grade and added bass guitar along the way.  He is now in seventh grade and recently declared that he is going to go to college for music and that he plans to major in both instruments.  This is due in large part to Mr. Bendel’s consistent instruction and positive example.  We couldn’t ask for a more inspiring teacher.

If we had to use one word to describe Mr. Bendel, it would be “inspiring.” His love for teaching and music was immediately evident at our first meeting. He has taught our son since the fourth grade when his passion for music was still being discovered. He comes to every lesson with an organized plan based on his student’s goals. He seems to intuitively know when to stretch our son and when to back off and give him space. One thing in particular we admire is Mr. Bendel’s insistence on teaching our son on his skill level, not his age. He has helped him prepare for multiple auditions, coached him through the acceptances and rejections of being a bassist and motivated him to excel at his craft. Through Mr. Bendel’s teaching, our son now plays for his high school orchestra, was accepted into the PMEAs, has been accepted into multiple camps including Carnegie Mellon School of Music Pre-College Camp, Curtis Institute Young Artist Summer Program and is a member of PYSO and TRYPO where he recently played at Carnegie Hall. He is now a sophomore in high school and wants to enter into a career in music. We know without Mr. Bendel our son would not have the love for music and the accomplishments that have come from having a teacher like him.  Music is more than notes on paper and a musician is more than the person playing those notes. Mr. Bendel gets that and teaches the whole student. We are blessed to have Mr. Bendel in our son’s life.
